Why are HeatSpring courses so expensive?

We received this question from a student and after responding, realized that we should add our response here for others to read. As always please contact us if you have any questions about a specific course.

Customer Inquiry

This course sounds like it would provide a great overview of the current solar energy markets, but I think it is too expensive.  It is about twice the price of a major university online course that is geared toward professionals, over the same approximate time period.  So if the price was cut in half or more, I would seriously consider enrolling.

HeatSpring Response

Hi R, I appreciate the feedback. The course is expensive, you are correct. We think there is a valid reason. Included with the course is access to Wes Kennedy, one of the leading industry experts in an incredibly dynamic and quickly changing topic. During the course session Wes answers questions on the discussion board and provides direct feedback on your required project work.

Wes and our other expert instructors must dedicate a lot of time to keeping the course up to date, as well as supporting the students. Those same experts command high consulting fees in the industry.

Also, please keep in mind that there is a significant difference between most University professors with primarily academic knowledge compared to industry experts who have spent their professional careers developing applied expertise in the topic. We only work with industry experts, who's contributions at the pinnacle of their career help the industry innovate and move forward. They come to HeatSpring for help passing their acquired knowledge on to the next generation of professionals. We like to think we are more like the apprentice model in that way.

In addition to access to the expert instructor during the session, you also get access to all of the course materials as soon as you enroll and also after the session ends, so you can continue working on the material and finish the course on your own pace. Many times there is too much material to get through in the 9-week session alone, so we encourage students to work ahead and be prepared for their time with Wes.

If you take a look at our student reviews, you'll see that we have had many many happy customers over the past 10 years, so the underlying value is there.

That being said, I understand that this means the course can only be available with those with money. In light of that we do offer financial aid so I encourage you to apply:
