Customer InquiryI have NO formal education in electrical practice or theory. I have rewired one of my early investment properties that was knob & tube and I have added subpanels and wired basements in my homes but I am really a do-it-yourselfer who has more common sense than the average person. My family has a vacation property that is solor and generator power only and I am the guy who is supposed to take the reigns on supporting and growing the system, hence my interest in your offerings. Can I be successful with your courses without any formal training in electrical theory?
There are no prerequisites required for any of our courses, even though some of them go into very advanced topics. We believe people learn in different ways and sometimes being thrown in 'over your head' is the way to go for a person or particular subject.
That being said, I'd recommend you start with this course: https://www.heatspring.com/courses/solar-pv-installer-boot-camp-nabcep-pv-associate-exam-prep
The NABCEP PV Associate Exam after the course is totally optional, so you can skip that part and save $150, unless you'd like to have the credential for some reason.
The course offers a really great introductory overview. It does not require experience or any electrical background, though that obviously helps. The instructor for this course Dr. Sean White is amazing and one of our most popular and highest rated instructors. He will connect with you on LinkedIn and answer any questions you have about the course material on the course discussion board. He answers lots of questions in great detail, so even going back through and reading his past conversations can be incredibly helpful.
The course is chock full of resources for additional learning, so I think you'll find some useful content in there that you will be able to refer back to over time as you develop your experience with the system you are responsible for. Also the course discussion board can be a great place to ask questions for Sean and other students about your particular setup.
Let me know if that helps or if you have any other questions.
